Emerson DeltaV 11.3 and SNMP

Hello

We supprt a production faciltiy that uses an Emerson DeltaV DCS. Most recently, my customer has asked to network in and retrieve info from the control power UPS. The control power UPS is an Eaton Ferrups UPS. Eaton does provide a SNMP/web adaptor IP appliance. With the SNMP/web adaptor, Eaton provides a MIB file associated with this SNMP/web adaptor. Per Eaton, I need to load/install this MIB file in the management software which will be receiving data. In the previous sentence lies the problem, what utility or software does Emerson DeltaV use as "management software" to communicate with SNMP data. I believe it would be some program or utility which resides on the Application Station. Any in-sight to this scenario would be greatly appreicated. thanks Patrick

DVOP Server Hardware

The DVOP Servers (v10.3) on our system are getting old (PE2650) and I have been asked to look at replacement options. Dell servers no longer support Server 2003 (32bit), they also told me they only support server 2008 R2. Non of the servers in the DeltaV Workstation Hardware list support Server 2003 any more. So i was wondering if i could Get a new Dell server and run Server 2003 on Hypervisor or Hyper-V? Would that be a support Emerson Solution?

The alternative would be to run DVOP on 2008, however the rest of the system is on 2003, i am not sure if mixing Server 2003 and 2008 is supported in DeltaV (although the DVOP servers are not in the domain or the DV pri/sec network).

Any thoughts?

Virtualization Delta V (production Environment)

as wondering if anyone is currently running Delta V in a production environment, I am currently looking at setting a new VM environment. I have a pretty extensive background with VMWare, but from what I understand Delta V Virtual Studio is based off Hyper-X.

If people would not mind posting their feedback with Virtualization I would appreciate it, little detail on your network configuration would be fantastic as well.

I am looking at setting up three R720 host servers and one R320 Virtualization Domain Controller. The storage device I will be using is a Dell MD3220i.

Again any feedback would be appreciated. (issues\good\bad etc.)

Application station Configured but facing some issues.

1. OPCwatchit BrowsePath is not working. It’s giving error this IOPCBrowseServerAddressSpace::BrowseOPCItemIDs() failed:c0040803

2. But if we type the path data quality is good.

3. We are not able to download from application station. Whenever we try to download it just verify the module and stops

4. Deltav Explorer is working ok with no error.

5. Checked license: Licenses are ok.

6. Proplus,application station have deltavadmin with password set to default using servpwd.exe

I have reinstalled Deltav & run workstation configuration but still problem persists.

Delta V Reporter

I am having troubles running Delta V reporter. I can search for the tags on the ap station but when i go to run the reporter or "Try It" it says a problem occurred( pictured below).

Extracting Archived Historian Data

Proplus download error

So, no download is proceeded.

DeltaV FHX Export issue "No Such Interface Supported"

Dear All,

im new to this forum, and i have problem with deltav.

Since i installed the Kepware OPC on the Engineering Work Station, i cant use the export function.

if i use export then there is pop um message say "No Such Interface Supported"

maybe there is .dll file missing but i dont know exactly.

as you can see in the Picture

hope there is an answer for my problem.

PVX-I/O with Deltav SX controller inverting analog inputs

Does anyone know how to easily invert an analog input with PVX-I/O on a Deltav SX controller? In Provox there was an invert option on the IST. We have had to bring the input into a scaler function block to invert it and then to a pseudo AI custom composite block. Also, in Provox you could make the 0-100% eng. units on an AI any direction and positive or negative. We have vacuum readings that were scaled in Provox at 20 for 0% and 30 for 100%. The top end of 30 is more vacuum. These we had to change on the DV AI block to be -20 at 100% and -30 at 0%.

Anyone else encounter these issues and find another way to work around them? Thanks

Dynamo highlight on active/inactive faceplate.

In a project I’m working on the customer wants an indication if the dynamo faceplate (dt/fp) is open. If the faceplate is the active window the dynamo should be surrounded with a white rectangle. If the faceplate is open, but not active the rectangle should be gray. If the faceplate is not open the rectangle is to be hidden.

The white rectangle is implemented calling the frsSetModule “ModuleName”, True in the CFixPicture_Activated() and calling frsSetModule “ModuleName”, False in Close and Deactivate. Then a visibility animation of the rectangle is like this DVSYS.MODULE/IDISP.F_SELECT_PRIVATE. The result is a nice white rectangle on activation of the faceplate

But this does not solve the issue regarding the inactive and open fp/dt. What I’m looking for is a parameter like this: DVSYS.MODULE/IDISP.F_MYFACEPLATE_IS_OPEN and a function to set the parameter. Using this parameter and an edge color animation on the rectangle I will be able to implement the requirement. I do realize this might not be an existing feature if so what is my options.

Question: Is there a function call which returns true if a faceplate is open or not? How can I use this function to support my animation ?

Batch redundancy

Hi,

Our plan is to have a redundant pair of batch executives. For now, the plan is that the campaign manager would run on one of them. Most of our recipes will be started by a Pas-X MES sysytem.

In your opinion, is there usually a need to have two campaign managers for redundancy? If yes, how would you do it?

The other question is whether there is a way to ensure redundancy in the batch historian. The data coming from there could be critical as it needs to be forwarded to MES and our historian so we wold not like to have any downtime.

Simulate DV11 - No way to load license file after new database creation

That's the second times that happend on different Simulate machine and don't know how to solve it :
- The Simulate machine works fine
- Creating a new Database
- Set active this new database
- ShutDown the DB server
- Start the ReRun utility + type the correct password at the end of procedure + restart the machine
- logging the machine
- Flexlock "DeltaV loggon"
... but the current (windows logging) user (that is the same as before) does'nt appears in the list; only got "Administrator, Configure and Maintainer"

The only user that accept loggin is Administrator.
When I start DV Explorer and try to load the license file, the item menus "File + Licensing" are greyed : "Load License File" and "Create License File".
If I select back to the previous Database, the problem is the same : License assignment disappears and the menu to load the license file is greyed.

The user exists in "user managment" account list.
If I rename the user in the "user management" + recreate a new one with the same name (as the window user) + reboot, then the windows desktop is reinitialized and I definitively lost access to anything.
The "WatchIt DongleDriver" says "RT_FAILURE" (error 7) - but works fine previously.

Questions :
- Is there another way to load license file than from the explorer menu ?
- Is there a reason why the user rights disappear after a ReRun ?

By the way, I only have the solution to reinstall completly Windows and DV to be able to build a new database
If someone have an idea ...
Some more details that could be important :
- This simulate machine runs under VMWare Player 5.0.2
- my dongle is supported on a parallel port LPT1 (and usualy works fine)

Management VLAN for DeltaV Networks

Our company IT department approached me with a project to add a separate management VLAN onto our DeltaV Primary and Secondary Cisco switches (3750) for monitoring in SolarWinds. The switches themselves definitely support management VLAN configuration, but I'm not exactly sure how to answer them. The switches are physically isolated from the rest of the company's networks. I was assured that while adding a management VLAN will physically bridge the switches into the corporate domain, the network and data will be unaffected.

Has anyone done this before? Is this even supported or recommended by Emerson? Will this open up our network to extra security risks? Can this possibly affect the operation of controllers and workstations?

Using Modbus TCP in DeltaV ready 1420 Smart Wireless Gateway

I have a configuration that includes a DeltaV ready 1420 Smart Wireless Gateway acting as a node in the DeltaV Control Network.

I want to map some registers using MODBUS TCP from the Gateway to be used in the Control Studio and Graphics.

Please advice on the procedure.

Node names containing underscores

Hi,

We are planning to have underscores "_" in the names or DeltaV workstations and controllers but someone suggested that it may create problems.

Does anyone know about this? Until now, I got the information that it could be problem in the case of workstations if we are using web-based solutions (PlantWeb Messenger, etc.). Is this true? Does it also affect controllers?

Profibus alarms

Hi,

In previous versions of DeltaV (we are using 11.3), when the profibus cable was disconnected(had comms loss), we got a lot of alarms in the alarm list. Now, we don't get anything. Is it a setting somewhere we are missing, or our profibus isn't set up correctly, or this is the normal behavior in version 11.3?

Recognition of 644h temperature transmitter

I'm a professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Puerto at Mayaguez and I have a new Foundation Fieldbus temperature transmitter installed in one of the unit operations. I connected the transmitter to my FF port and defined the tag in my FF card. However, the card seems not to recognize the transmitter and when I checked the properties, it did not show any ID. I guess this is wrong so how do I make the card to recognize the transmitter? In the I/O list, when I check the FF card, the transmitter tag appears with a ! sign.

Any help?

Pulling in OPC Timestamp in Control Studio and Operate

I want to map the time stamp from 1420GW OPC Server in DeltaV Control Studio and Operate to calculate and display valve stroking time.

I managed to pull in the Valve Position which is PV but I am not sure how to pull in the time stamp associated with the PV in the Control Studio and Operate.

faceplate/detail positioning

Hi,

Within the project I am working, one of features should be the ability to open the faceplate/detail of a module near the dynamo.

The current version which I have reached so far is to use GetCursorPos to get the coordinates of the cursor (in pixels) and to call afterwards frsSetPictureCoordinates to position the faceplate/detail after the call of frszdynamoloadia.

Now I am encountering problems with finding the faceplate or detail height/width in pixels in order to position properly the faceplate/detail when the dynamo is located near the corners of the main pricture.

I am aware of the function frsPicWidth or frsPicHeight where the argument is a member of DV_PICTURES which can be FACEPLATE, DETAIL, MAIN_PICTURE and so on, but the function returns the value 0 when I call it after frszdynamoloadia.

Delta V SISNet & DCS - Backup Micrwave Radio Communications

Hi guys - DCS Newbie here and more from IT side than controls.

We have situation that one of our remote platforms has no redundant fiber infrastructure.

We are putting in place a Microwave Radio - point to point as a backup in case of fiber cut. However, I was wondering if anyone else has tried to put SISNet and DCS over Microwave Radio ? Will it work at IP level or do I need special interfaces to connect to Microwave Radio System?

DeltaV installed on a server

I am just trying to confirm that when installing DeltaV onto a Server instead of a desktop PC is a seperate server required for both the Engineering station and the Operators station?

The site currently has version 11.7 running on desktop PC's but an upcoming expansion the customer would like DeltaV within a server enviroment.
